I Am The Human Experience: Lisa Overturf

I am the human experience.

I am a sexual person, but first and foremost, I am a human being.

I was a sexually precocious child and experimented in ways that at best some might find shocking, at worst, disturbing. But, those are my secrets, fantasies and experiences. I do not have to share them with anyone, but I do choose to share the self I have become because of them.

I never felt the need to be straight or otherwise. My initial socio-sexual being was as a heterosexual, married woman. I enjoyed my sexual relationship with this person of the opposite gender. I did not enjoy the dynamic of our clashing beliefs, personalities, and behaviors. I held on to the belief that individuals do not fundamentally change. It became my sanctuary. We are who we were born to be.

My transition from heterosexuality to homosexuality challenged this idea. It was not a conscious decision, rather an awakening of who I needed to be then, and who I am now. I am a lesbian mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. I am quirky, funny, creative, lacking in self-confidence and esteem, but insightful enough to occasionally see my brilliance and the goodness I offer to the world.

I remain highly sexual. My current socio-sexual being desires the butch-femme dance of intimacy. This lends itself to much confusion for those around me. I do not feel it necessary to offer explanations or apologies for defining or wanting the masculine and feminine roles in my relationships.

I know who I am. I am a homosexual, a lesbian, a femme. Others may need to define me differently because they do not see sexuality as fluid or without boundaries. I am ok with me as I am. I am ok with you as you are.
